With [Spring-loaded Tool Shortcuts] enabled, while holding the desired tool’s letter key beyond the configured delayHold the tool’s letter beyond the configured spring-loaded delay; release it to return to the previous tool. This changes the selected tool; it does not complete painting or editing without a pointer.

Switch the Brush tool temporarily between painting and erasing
With the Brush toolThe common-shortcuts table says to hold tilde (~) with the Brush tool, but repeated tables in the same PDF name grave accent (`) for painting and erasing with the same brush. Painting or erasing still requires the appropriate pointer action.

Masks in [Select and Mask]PhotoshopIn the [Select and Mask] workspace context documented by the Adobe PDF; required focus, selection state, and current-build behavior remain unconfirmed

Mask targeting in the [Select and Mask] workspace context; required focus and selection state remain unconfirmedThe PDF’s [Use Select and Mask] table gives bare backslash in the macOS column, without Command. Cycle through blending modes
When cycling through blending modesThe November 5, 2019 reference and the shorter shortcut sheet use different, compressed plus/minus notation in their macOS columns. Neither table repeats Shift before minus. Adobe’s [Combine images] tutorial explicitly holds Shift with plus and with minus for layer blending modes with the Move tool (https://www.adobe.com/learn/photoshop/web/combining-images-basics). That example supports the two Shift-modified alternatives, but it does not settle the shortcut sheet’s punctuation or every tool context. The exact current Mac interpretation remains unconfirmed; no direction or JIS/US physical-key equivalence is assigned here.

About this page

Checked / Updated

These Photoshop Keyboard Shortcuts cover selections, retouching, layers, and canvas navigation in the macOS desktop app. They use Mac bindings; Windows and Photoshop on the web are outside this page’s scope. Entry conditions explain when each command applies, and function keys may need Fn if macOS uses them for brightness or volume.

Coverage is selected from Adobe documentation, with current help and the shortcut sheet kept distinct from the November 2019 reference manual. The checks establish what the sources document; no Photoshop build or app–macOS combination was tested. Shared Mac commands retain their Sequoia 15 and Tahoe 26 labels. US and JIS diagrams are display aids, with no tested equivalence of physical key positions or behavior.

The shared macOS commands target Sequoia 15 and Tahoe 26. Availability depends on the app and on your keyboard shortcut settings. The Photoshop records describe Adobe documentation, rather than a tested Photoshop and macOS build combination.

🌐 means the Fn or Globe key. The F-key bindings assume your keyboard sends standard function keys directly. If brightness, volume, or other macOS functions take priority, hold Fn with the function key as Adobe instructs.

Symbols retain the characters printed in Adobe’s documentation. The US and JIS diagrams are display aids; matching physical positions and behavior on a JIS keyboard have not been tested. A symbol in the source does not establish the same key position on both layouts.

Finder commands and commands used while editing text have separate conditions. The same combination can have a different effect in another tool, field, dialog, or document context.

Commands requiring macOS 27 or later are outside this collection.

Photoshop source checks for this English collection were performed on 2026-11-02 UTC. They establish what the cited English documents say. No device, application-build, OS-version, or physical-key-position test was performed. The shortcut PDF does not identify a Photoshop build; the larger reference PDF is dated November 5, 2019.

Letter-key tool shortcuts are used with the canvas active, outside text entry and dialogs. Tools sharing a letter are listed together. When [Use Shift Key for Tool Switch] is enabled, hold Shift with that letter to cycle through its tool group. Holding a tool shortcut for longer than the spring-loaded delay is a different operation from tapping it.

Painting, dragging, sampling, and other pointer gestures are not completed merely by pressing a tool shortcut or modifier. The notes distinguish temporary tool changes from applying their effect to the image.

The 21 shared macOS operations and their categories, sources, dates, and historical evidence are preserved from the supplied English seed. Photoshop defaults and customized macOS assignments can conflict with these shortcuts; their actual priority has not been tested.

The immutable Japanese original retains 237 historical native source-verification events. They have not been relabeled as checks for this English edition. New native verification entries refer only to the documentation axis, without asserting a tested OS version.

The source tables contain repeated general rows as well as older or ambiguous wording. In particular, the tilde/grave-accent distinction, the unidentified “Slide” exclusion, mask targeting versus rubylith display, and some “by 10” increments remain explicit limitations in the affected records.

A standalone Command+W Photoshop close-document binding was not established by the Adobe text used here. The documented close-and-open-Bridge route and close-all-other-documents route remain separate. This collection is selected coverage, not a claim to contain every Photoshop command.

Check the app and OS version and your keyboard layout. Behavior can depend on your settings and active app. Each action links to its official source.
