How to use this site
Choose an app
Open the guide for your app and OS from “Choose an app” on the home page or from the menu (☰) at the top right. Pick your OS in the header to narrow the list and search to it. The menu’s search box looks across every app by action, app name or key, and lists the guides you opened recently.
Look up an action
Type what you want to do, such as “reopen tab” or “take a screenshot”, into the search box at the top left of a guide to list the matching shortcuts. You can also browse the contents by task.
Look up a key
Type keys such as “Ctrl P” or “⌘ Shift T” into the search box to list the shortcuts that use them. Switch “Action ▾” at the left of the box to “Key” to press the keys themselves or pick them on the small keyboard below the box. It also tells you what a key you pressed by accident did.
See where to press
Choose a shortcut and its keys light up on the keyboard diagram. Switch the layout (US, JIS and others) on the diagram; your choice is kept for next time.
Use it from the keyboard
- /: jump to the page’s search box (← at its start reaches “By action / By keys”)
- R: switch between searching by action and by keys
- ↓ and ↑: move between the search box, the contents and the shortcuts (the chosen one opens its conditions and source)
- Enter: pin the chosen shortcut
- O: open the chosen shortcut’s official source
- Esc: clear the search or the choice
- ↑ in the search box: move up to the header (← → move between the logo, language, OS and menu; ↓ comes back)
- ⌘K (Ctrl+K on Windows): open or close the menu and search every app
- K: open or close the keyboard diagram
- − +: make the keyboard diagram smaller or larger
- S: open display settings (layout, the other OS’s keys, colours)
While a guide is open, the middle of the header shows the keys you can use at that moment.
Switch language or OS
Change the language or OS in the header while a guide is open to move to the same app’s other edition. If that edition is not ready yet, the site tells you it is on its way.
