About this page

Checked / Updated

Find keyboard shortcuts for editing cells, moving between worksheets, formatting data, and working with formulas in the Microsoft 365 desktop edition of Excel on Windows 11. This guide brings together 31 Excel commands and 22 related Windows commands for tasks such as switching windows and managing files. Each command belongs to a particular context: File Explorer shortcuts apply in File Explorer, while Excel's arrow keys move between cells outside Edit mode and move the cursor within a cell in Edit mode.

The diagrams offer US and JIS views, while the documented Excel shortcuts use the US keyboard layout, so keys on other layouts may not correspond exactly. The JIS view is a visual aid; it does not confirm key positions or behavior on a JIS keyboard. For ribbon commands, check the Key Tips displayed in Excel.

The Japanese documentation baseline is October 18, 2026. English documentation checks for the Excel commands are dated November 2, 2026; shared Windows commands retain their individual check dates. These dates record documentation review rather than device testing or verification of specific builds and US/JIS key positions.

This guide covers the Microsoft 365 desktop edition of Excel for Windows. It does not include commands for the Mac or web editions.

Microsoft documents these shortcuts for the US keyboard layout. You can switch the diagram between US and JIS layouts. The JIS diagram is a visual aid; it does not indicate that key positions or behavior have been tested on a JIS keyboard.

Symbol keys follow the notation in the official documentation. Press keys in order where the sequence says “then.” For ribbon commands that begin with Alt, also check the Key Tips shown in Excel.

The same keys can behave differently when a cell is selected, a cell is being edited, or a dialog box or task pane has focus. Use each command in the context stated for that item.

Check the app and OS version and your keyboard layout. Behavior can depend on your settings and active app. Each action links to its official source.
