ChatGPT Keyboard Shortcuts (Mac Desktop)
ChatGPT · Desktop app (as of the verification date)
About this list and its requirements
/ Checked / Updated
Use this guide when you want to start a chat, move between chats or tabs, or find a passage in the open conversation. It brings together ChatGPT’s default macOS shortcuts and selected system commands for working with apps and files. This guide limits its ChatGPT entries to macOS Tahoe 26; Sequoia 15 is outside its reviewed scope. The recorded review covers the desktop app current as of October 20, 2026, with bindings checked against official documentation rather than tested on a device. Extra Shift presses for symbols and numeric keypad alternatives are omitted. If you have customized a binding, review it in [Settings] › [Keyboard Shortcuts] before relying on the default keys.
This guide covers the ChatGPT desktop app. The web and mobile apps are outside its scope. Default bindings were checked against official documentation; customized bindings and features that have not been verified may use different keys.
ChatGPT-specific entries use the macOS section of the official documentation as of October 20, 2026 as source evidence for the current app on macOS Tahoe 26. These are documentation checks, not tests performed by pressing keys on a device. ChatGPT-specific shortcuts on Sequoia 15 have not been verified and are outside this guide’s scope.
If you have changed the default keys, check your current bindings in [Settings] › [Keyboard Shortcuts]. You can search by command name or enter a key combination in keystroke search.
[Search chats], which searches across past chats, has no default shortcut. Assign one in [Settings] › [Keyboard Shortcuts]. It searches a different scope from finding text within the current chat.
You can change the keys used to send prompts in [Settings] › [General]. Settings can use Enter alone or a modifier key with Enter, so check your own setting when composing a prompt.
Keys are shown by their logical names. The same symbol may occupy different positions on JIS and US layouts. This guide does not include additional Shift presses for symbols or numeric keypad alternatives.
The shared operating system entries cover ⌘+, for ChatGPT settings, ⌘+Q to quit the app, and ⌘+W to close the front window.
